Bliss Bros. Dairy Timeline

Late 1800s
The Bliss farm begins a dairy business under the name Locust Grove Farm, delivering milk to customers in Attleboro and Pawtucket
1920s
Bliss Bros. Dairy Inc. is created when Thomas and Eva build a small dairy plant behind their home and an ice cream stand next to it at 697 Park St.
1930 - 1950

Horse-drawn delivery wagons are slowly replaced by trucks. Milk routes expand north to Foxboro, southwest to Seekonk and east to Taunton. The ice cream stand continues to gain popularity with local residents, and more flavors are added.

1951
A new milk and ice cream plant is constructed beside the original facility at 711 Park Street, the same address the plant is still located to this day.
1971
Bliss ice cream and sherbet gains popularity outside the greater Attleboro area, as the dairy begins to sell frozen desserts to other businesses. The wholesale ice cream division is born.
1978
Kent Bliss and his son David convert the Park Street ice cream parlor into a full restaurant. Five similar Bliss restaurants — in Taunton, North Attleboro, Canton, Sharon and Norton — serve customers at different periods between 1966 and 2001. The original Bliss restaurant in Attleboro is still a New England icon to this day, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and of course, ice cream, daily.
1990s - early 2000s
Bliss ice cream continues to grow in popularity and reach. Upgrades to the plant are made and the wholesale business grows as restaurants, scoop shops, and many other businesses prefer to scoop Bliss ice cream for their customers over any other product.
March 2015
The Bliss Family sells the business to Bruce Ginsberg, owner of New England Ice Cream Corp, a family business Bruce runs with his son Max (and soon his sons Ben and Sam too). The Ginsberg Family aims to keep the over 100 year old brand going, and to continue to produce premium quality ice cream for the next 100 years!
2020
Bliss undergoes major renovations to the building, the plant, and the grounds. To make guests safe and comfortable during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bliss adds walk up windows and a large outdoor park area for the community to enjoy.
2021

Bliss continues to invest in the manufacturing plant, adding in new, state of the art equipment that expands the plant’s capacity, capabilities, and efficiency.

2023

Bliss commissions the local “The Art of Life” artists Bonnie Lee Turner and Charles Clear to paint two new murals, each over 20 feet tall, that celebrate ice cream and local dairy farms.
